A coordinated intelligence-driven operation by the Provincial Head Office Crime Intelligence and Butterworth SAPS Vispol unit led to the recovery of an illegal homemade firearm following a tip-off about drug activities in Bawa locality, Komkhulu outside Butterworth.
On the evening of Monday, 21 July 2025, police received information from a reliable source regarding a suspect who was allegedly distributing drugs such as Tik and Mandrax.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a special operation was launched on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, at approximately 22:00. Members proceeded to the suspect’s residence in Komkhulu, where a thorough search was conducted.
Although no drugs were found during the operation, police discovered and confiscated a homemade shotgun. No arrests were made as the suspect was not present at the time of the operation.
Investigation is underway.
