Recently, several doctors have been approached by individuals impersonating Policemen.
These men were in possession of SAPS case dockets and informed the male doctors that they were being investigated for inappropriately touching female patients. The Policemen would inform them that the criminal case was not registered at that stage and would demand large sums of monies to avoid arrest. When the doctors denied the allegations and refused to pay, the Policemen would then threaten to expose the medical practitioner via the media. Few of these doctors have paid cash to avoid the defamation.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was contacted by several doctors seeking assistance. Reaction Officers established that no cases were registered & that Policemen were being impersonated.
The bogus Policemen were identified as two (2) Indian males.
