Over the weekend, from Friday, 25 July 2025, to Sunday, 27 July 2025, 331 suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes within the Ekurhuleni policing precincts. Additionally, four unlicensed firearms were taken off the streets and illegal liquor outlets were closed.
On Friday, 25 July 2025, an intelligence-driven operation involving members of the SAPS and EMPD investigated a firearm that had been stolen during a housebreaking in Kwa-Thema, where the complainant was a police officer. The officers’ investigation led them to Peu Street, Kwa-Thema, where they discovered two suspects. After searching the property, they discovered two pistol, a PX pistol and a 9mm pistol as well as ammunition. The two suspects, ages 29 and 30, were arrested and taken to Kwa-Thema police station for detention.
In Alberton, three African men approached the police on Saturday, 26 July 2025, at approximately 22:40 when they were on patrol along Lundlelo Street, Phumla Ext 22, to complain that three African men had stolen their stuff, including one victim’s Apple iPhone. After tracking it, they arrived at a blue Atos on Gugulethu Street in Rondebult. There were four people in the car when it was stopped. When it was searched, a Z88 Parabellum Pistol, 15 live rounds, the victims’ cards, a black jacket, and an Apple iPhone were discovered.
Both the suspects were arrested and taken to Alberton police station for detention.
Following a stop and search by patrolling police, another suspect was arrested near Vivian Drive in Daveyton on Saturday, 26 July 2025, at 7:00am. They discovered six live rounds in a 9mm handgun when they searched him. After then, he was arrested and brought to Daveyton police station for detention
