NELSPRUIT – The astute members deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi netted four illegal immigrants on Monday, 28 July 2025 in Barberton.
The suspects were arrested during the disruptive operation conducted by the National Roving team, K9 Unit, Task force, and Vukalanga Security in Barberton area, focused on Mandela village and Snake Valley.
Meanwhile, during a disruptive operation that was conducted at Mandela view in Barberton on Sunday, 27 July 2025, illicit mining equipments were found abandoned, including shovels, picks, black oxygen cylinder, cutting torches, and gold bearing material.
The suspects, aged between 21 and 40 are expected to appear at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court soon for the Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed the arrests made and emphasized that law enforcement agencies will continue with efforts to eradicate illegal mining activities. The General further reassured the public that more achievements are expected as the operation is intensified.
