A male suspect, aged 53, was arrested during Operation Vala Umgodi, after being found in possession of unlicenced firearm as well as game meat (carcass). The team assigned for the operation apprehended the suspect at Masoyi yesterday, 29 July 2025, after receiving a tip-off.
The team swiftly followed the information, and upon arrival at the said area, a search was carried out whereby a hunting rifle with the serial numbers filled off. There were also 27 ammunition as well as game meat recovered at the premises. It was during this time when the combat and proactive team nabbed the suspect.
The suspect was charged for possession of unlicenced firearm with ammunition as well as for illegal possession of game meat.
The suspect, identified as Henry Raymond Mlimi, appeared at Masoyi Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 30 July 2025, where he was granted R1000 bail. The case was postponed to 01 October 2025.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended members for the exceptional work done as proliferation of firearms is a challenge that contributes negatively to violent crimes in the society.
