On Friday 1 August 2025, Operation Basadi kicked off at SAPS Kraaifontein. The operation was a female driven operation which include operational members from SAPS Kraaifontein and females from neighbouring police stations within the City of Cape Town District who were invited, as well as members from the Western Cape SAPS Provincial Head Office were present.
The operation commenced with a parade that was led by Brigadier Zukiswa Matumbu as the functionary, as well as the Spiritual Crime Prevention team was present to open the day with a prayer, where after members were briefed about the intended operations.
The operational members, together with ten Community In Blue members, met at a high school in Old Paarl Road, Bloekombos, Kraaifontein for a school search. A total of 887 school learners’ bags were searched as they entered the school gates, and 21 vehicles were searched entering the premises. A 45 year old female was arrested for drunk and driving and was detained at the Kraaifontein police cells and was later release on a warning to appear in court. While the search continued at the school the members searched a silver Kia Sportage and found a Norinco 7.62 calibre with eight rounds inside the spare wheel in the boot of the vehicle. The firearm with the rounds was confiscated and handed in as exhibit.
While the school search continued, a group of members conducted a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) around the school area where a total of 47 vehicles were checked and searched.
The members also conducted several operations including a roadblock together with Law Enforcement members in Frans Conradie Boulevard Kraaifontein where a total of 1300 vehicles were tested, and 222 vehicles were searched. Traffic fines to the value of R22 500.00 were issued to motorists ranging from driving without licence to unlicensed vehicles.
Other operations taking place simultaneously were a mini-Community Service Centre (CSC) at Block Centre Shoprite that was administered by police personnel for the community to do certifications, short statements and information on domestic violence and Gender Base Violence. A total of 1750 pamphlets were handed out to the Kraaifontein community members that visited the mini-CSC.
Other operations included the serving of protection orders, and the members were able to visit respondents of protection orders and serviced 11 respondents with protection orders for domestic violence related cases.
Second-hand operation in conjunction with Law Enforcement Metal Unit happened simultaneously. Four compliance inspections were conducted at scrap dealers. At one illegal scrap dealer a 25 year old male was arrested for possession of stolen goods and in terms of the Second-Hand Goods Act 6/2009 failure by a dealer to register as Second-hand Goods Dealer, by Law Enforcement in Klipbok Street, Scottsdene Kraaifontein. Upon inspection at the illegal scrap dealer the officer and members found a wheelie bin valued at approximately R600.00 as well two steel municipality wheelie bin wheels valued at R500.00 that were the property of the City of Cape Town Municipality. The suspect is currently in holding at SAPS Kraaifontein.
The operational members with Community in Blue were doing a walk-about in Takudi and Hani Street, Wallacedene Kraaifontein, one of our hotspot areas. Operational members attached to Western Cape Flying Squad was also present during the walk-about and received an alert of a White Foton Taxi that was positively stolen on a Midrand fraud case registered in April 2025 in Laboheme Street, Wallacedene, Kraaifontein. The 33 year old driver was arrested for possession of stolen motor vehicle and is currently at SAPS Kraaifontein holding cells. The vehicle was handed in as exhibit and further processing.
The Provincial Visible Policing Commander Brigadier Zukiswa Matumbu commended the members for their dedication and commitment in ensuring the perpetrator of crime are brought to justice. She further encouraged the community to keep on assisting the police in ridding their neighbourhoods of criminal elements.
