Members attached to the Welkom Public Order Police (POP) have made arrests in two separate incidents in Welkom.
It is alleged that on Friday, 1 August 2025, members of platoon 1 were busy with their crime combating duties when they received information about an african male selling drugs. The information was traced and led members to a shack at an informal settlement in Thabong. On arrival at the targeted shack, a search was conducted and led to the discovery of a black plastic bag allegedly containing drugs. Police confiscated twelve(12) full mandrax tablets, one(1) half mandrax tablet, five(5) ziplock bags of crystal meth, twenty lolly pipes and one(1) scale. The 25-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.
In a separate incident, members arrested a 42-year-old african male in Doorn, Welkom, for contravention of protection. This after, he allegedly contravened the terms of the protection order and acted violently towards his older brother.
The two suspects aged 25 and 42 are expected to make their first court appearances before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 4 August 2025.
