Police in De Aar have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect and recovered stolen items valued at more than R1.2 million, following a reported theft out of a motor vehicle and theft from a guesthouse in De Aar between Friday, 01 August 2025, and Saturday, 02 August 2025.
The police swiftly responded to a complaint lodged by the guesthouse owner regarding several items stolen from a guest’s vehicle. Preliminary investigations led to the identification of the suspect.
The suspect was traced to an abandoned house in Kort Street, De Aar. Upon searching the premises, police discovered various stolen items, including miscellaneous parts and electrical testers with an estimated value exceeding R1.2 million.
The suspect was arrested and charged with theft out of a motor vehicle. He is expected to appear in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court soon.
The District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended the members involved for their swift action and the successful recovery of the stolen property.
She further stated that the rapid response by the police reflects growing cooperation from the business community, who are heeding to SAPS safety tips aimed at reducing incidents of theft, business burglaries, and housebreak-in incidents.
