The SAPS #AntiGangUnit in Gauteng continues to make a significant impact on the dealing of proliferation of unlicensed firearms and drugs. This after the unit arrested a couple in Sandton after they were found with drugs and unlicensed firearms.
The team swiftly followed up on information regarding an individual in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition at a certain hotel in Sandton. Upon arrival, a thorough search was executed, which resulted in the seizure of two automatic rifles, three pistols with their serial numbers filed off, five pistol magazines, two rifle magazines, 29 rounds of ammunition (9mm), and a bag containing multiple rifle rounds of ammunition and a substantial quantity of various suspected narcotics such as cocaine, crystal meth, mandrax tablets, and ecstasy.
In addition to these findings, a further search led to the recovery of a motor vehicle reported stolen in October 2024.
A ballistic analysis will be conducted on the seized firearms to determine their potential links to other criminal activities.
The 33-year-old male suspect and his 26-year-old girlfriend are expected to appear before court soon.
