GQEBERHA – The phenomenal and impressive recovery of illegal firearms continue to manifest in the Nelson Mandela Bay district as passionate and devoted members of the police sweep the ground to rid communities from illegal firearms.
The intensity of the weekly high-density Operation Shanela II is showing consistency as nearly 72 firearms were confiscated, and suspects were arrested in the Nelson Mandela Bay District last month. These integrated crime-fighting operations of police members with the assistance from other law enforcement agencies and other relevant government departments are making huge strides in the district.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata recognised and acknowledged the selfless endeavours of members in keeping the community safe. ‘It is of great concern when illegal firearms are still in the hands of criminals. The recovery of these firearms is a direct result of intensified crime prevention operations, police visibility and the efforts of the men and women in blue who work daily to rid the streets of illegal weapons,’ added Maj Gen Ncata.
