KIMBERLEY – Operation Vala Umgodi, remains focused in clamping down illicit mining and other criminal activities in the Frances Baard and Namakwa Districts respectively.
This is evident with the unabated operations that was executed in Kleinsee on 11 September 2025 when a 47-year-old male was arrested for being in possession unpolished diamonds in the Nuttabooi informal settlement.
The operation led by the operational commander, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Mosikare supported by the SAPS Tactical Response Team, Crime Intelligence, Visible Policing, Detectives and Local Criminal Record Centre.
Police actions executed during the operations included, vehicle checkpoints (VCP’s), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, visits to ATM and Petrol stations, coastal patrols, drugs and to address the trafficking of drugs and firearms as well as other goods.
Disruptive actions were executed in the Sizamele settlement and other surrounding areas.
Multiple operational successes were achieved and traffic fines were issued for various traffic transgressions.
The Namakwa District Commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews commemded the operational teams for their ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal mining activities and confiscating the implements used.
