NELSPRUIT – Police in Mpumalanga, led by their Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi bade farewell to slain police officer, Sergeant Tshepo Mokoena of the Grootvlei Police Station, on 27 September 2025.
He was joined by the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Life Monini.
Sergeant Mokoena was shot and killed in Grootvlei on 17 September 2025.
Mr Monini lamented the passing of Sergeant Mokoena and lauded the police for already having made headway in the investigation into his murder.
Major General Mkhwanazi saluted Sergeant Mokoena for the 16 years he diligently served the country and told his colleagues to take the baton and continue serving with integrity.
“Remain vigilant even when you are off duty, be operationally ready, and always use your tools of trade when confronted by danger. The best way to honour Sergeant Mokoena’s sacrifice is to protect yourselves so that we may continue to serve our communities with strength and resolve,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.
