NELSPRUIT – Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a case of a cash-in-transit robbery, which occurred in the White River central business district on Monday, 29 September 2025.
Preliminary information indicates that CIT guards were collecting cash at a business premises when they were allegedly accosted by armed suspects just outside the premises. One of the suspects is said to have pointed a firearm at the guard and demanded a money box containing an undisclosed amount of cash. The guard complied and fled the scene on foot.
The suspects then fired several shots at the armoured vehicle as well as in the direction of the fleeing guard before making off with the money box.
During the incident, a female bystander was struck by a stray bullet and sustained injuries. She was immediately transported to hospital for medical treatment.
The number of suspects involved is not yet confirmed and they remain unknown at this stage.
Specialised units, including the Detective Branch, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), the Crime Intelligence Unit, and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), attended the scene and investigations are underway.
