An iPhone 11 was snatched from a motorist during an attempted hijacking on Noordsberg Road in Wewe – KZN today (Wednesday).
The incident was thwarted when passing motorists disrupted the crime in progress, forcing the suspects to flee. The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received a call for assistance from a passing motorist at approximately 06:41.
The caller reported a collision and a group of males involved in a dispute. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived to find the driver and passenger of a white Isuzu bakkie visibly shaken but unharmed.
The driver reported that a white Toyota Etios, travelling from Ndondolo – KZN, collided with the passenger side of his bakkie. When he stopped to assess the situation, seven men exited the Toyota
Etios and approached him aggressively, demanding his mobile phone and the keys to his bakkie.
Their attempt was interrupted as passing motorists drew attention to the scene, causing the suspects to hastily retreat to their vehicle and speed off. In their rush, they left behind a number plate.
The victim was adamant that the occupants of the Toyota Etios intended on hijacking his company Isuzu bakkie and the incident was not related to a road rage episode following the collision.
