WESTERN CAPE – Anti-Gang Unit members continue the fight against crime and ensure that those who find themselves at the wrong side of the law face the consequences.
On 15 October 2025 at about 11:30, the members in a joint operation with De Doorns Crime Prevention Unit and Worcester Detectives executed a search warrant at a spaza shop, in GG camp, De Doorns.
Information was received regarding a stolen firearm that was sold to the shop owner. This firearm was stolen in a housebreaking and theft case reported at Worcester earlier this month. The shop and occupants were searched, and a Baretta 9mm pistol with four rounds were found in possession of the shop owner and his worker. The two suspects aged 29 and 34 were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and detained at De Doorns SAPS. Both suspects are working and residing at the spaza shop.
Further investigation on the scene lead members on a foot search between the shacks in GG camp for the suspect in the Worcester housebreaking and theft case. When the suspect saw the members approaching him he ran between the shacks. Members gave chase and found him hiding between shacks. The 40 year old suspect was arrested for the mentioned charges.
Once charged the suspects will appear in the Worcester Magistrates courts, respectively for their mentioned charges.
In an unrelated matter, on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, members attached to Anti-Gang Unit deployed in Hanover Park precinct to curb gang violence in the area as well as eliminating firearms off the streets. A search and seizure operation was conducted aimed to confiscate illegal firearms and ammunition in the area. The team conducted a search at a premises in Dahlia Street, Hanover Park which resulted positively in the arrest of a 31-year-old male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court once charge.
Meanwhile Worcester SAPS Crime Prevention Unit found a 12 bore shotgun abandoned in Viljoen Street, Roodewal, Worcester. The members followed up on information received from a reliable source that a firearm was hidden at the mentioned address. They operationalised the information and found the shotgun abandoned behind a green electrical box. It was seized and handed in as exhibit and further processing. An enquiry was registered.
