At approximately 6:02 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday), a member of the public contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre to report that a man had been robbed and bound inside an unoccupied house in Riverview, KZN.
Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim, who had already been untied by community members after they heard his calls for help.
The victim, a Phoenix – KZN resident, informed Officers that he is self-employed and operates a vehicle licensing business. He stated that he had been communicating with a potential client via phone calls and text messages. The client claimed he needed assistance with registering vehicles for licensing.
After ongoing communication, the victim agreed to meet the client at a location sent to him on Delta Road in Riverview – KZN. Upon arrival, he was confronted by four suspects who held him against a wall, forced him into an unoccupied residence, and bound him inside a room using shoelaces (picture 2).
The suspects proceeded to rob the victim of his Samsung S24 Ultra smartphone and an undisclosed amount of cash. They then fled the scene in a silver Toyota Etios.
The victim did not sustain any injuries during the incident.
