The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirms the successful apprehension of a wanted suspect and the seizure of illegal narcotics with an estimated street value of R17,000 in Lenasia South following a tactical operation on Sunday, 19 October 2025.
The operation was initiated when JMPD K9 Unit members responded to a request for urgent assistance from a Tactical Response Unit (TRU) regarding a wanted individual. JMPD officers proceeded to a residence on Liverpool Street in Lenasia South based on the provided information.
Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect attempting to evade arrest by fleeing the premises and jumping a back wall. The JMPD K9 Unit and TRU immediately cordoned off the area, resulting in the swift apprehension of the suspect.
Following the apprehension, the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights, and officers requested and received permission to search his room. The search yielded a green cooler bag found under the bed.
Inside the bag, officers discovered:
Three clear plastic packets containing tablets suspected to be Mandrax, with an estimated street value of R7,000, a crystal-clear substance suspected to be Crystal Meth, with an estimated street value of R10,000, and a small digital scale.
The suspect was immediately placed under arrest on a charge of Possession of Drugs.
The JMPD commends the vigilance and swift coordination between the K9 and TRU Units, reaffirming the department’s commitment to rooting out criminal elements and drug trafficking within the City of Johannesburg.
