On Wednesday 21 January 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention, Community Liaison and K9 Unit Officers, in collaboration with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence Unit Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects aged forty-nine (49) and fifty-five (55) in the Primrose area.
The arrest followed intelligence received regarding individuals allegedly dealing in cannabis. Officers proceeded to Polly Street, where the suspects were located on the premises and subjected to a body search.
Officers conducted a search of the residence, during which multiple large containers of cannabis concealed in different bedrooms were uncovered. Further items recovered included three (3) portable scales, thirty-five (35) drug paraphernalia pipes, three (3) cellular phones, three (3) speed point machines, rolling papers, cannabis-infused lollipops, chocolates and mushrooms. The total estimated value of the seized items was approximately R30 000.
The suspects were requested to produce valid cultivation and manufacturing documentation, including a South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) Section 22C licence, authorising the possession of large quantities of cannabis and the manufacture and sale of cannabis-infused products. The suspects failed to produce the required documentation.
Both suspects were arrested and detained at Primrose Police Station. They are facing charges of possession and dealing in illicit substances and are expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
