Two men have died following a horrific single vehicle collision on the N3 highway in Westville, KZN.
The exact events leading up to the collision is unclear, but the single Ford Bantam bakkie had allegedly veered out of control before leaving the highway and colliding head-on with a roadside pole.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the bakkie had literally torn in two. Both occupants, males believed to be aged in their late 20’s, had been ejected from the vehicle upon impact. One of the occupants was found nearly 50 meters away from the wrecked bakkie. The man had sustained various fatal injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.
The other male occupant was found to have sustained various serious injuries including, head and chest injuries as well as various broken bones. Shortly after paramedics started administering treatment to the man he stopped breathing and had no pulse. Paramedics initiated resuscitation efforts on the man, but to no avail as he was later declared dead at the scene.
Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
