Following earlier reports on the clean-up and enforcement operation at Moore Road under the M4 Southern Freeway bridge, Durban Metro Police Service officers made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer operating within the informal settlement that had developed in the area.
During the coordinated operation, members conducted searches within the settlement structures and surrounding areas. A female suspect was arrested after officers discovered Mandrax tablets and heroin in her possession, along with R6,723 in cash, mostly consisting of coins believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.
Additional items linked to drug use and distribution, including syringes, safe cookers, saline washes and alcohol swabs, were also seized during the arrest.
The suspect was subsequently detained at South African Police Service Umbilo Station, where a case has been registered for possession and dealing in drugs.
This arrest forms part of a broader enforcement effort to dismantle the drug-related activities that had taken root under the bridge, where individuals had established an informal settlement and reduced Moore Road from four lanes to two, creating safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.
Authorities have since cleared the area and restored normal traffic flow, while law enforcement continues to monitor the location to prevent criminal elements from returning
