Just after 11:30 the Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit received a call for a house fire in the Garsfontein X10 area of Pretoria east.
On arrival there were reports that a elderly female resident was missing.
Our team along with Fidelity SecureFire managed to stop the fire which only burned around 40% of the structure.
Shortly thereafter we were joined by City of Tshwane Firefighters enabling us to push into the burning area. On entry of the main bedroom the body of a person believed to be the missing female was found burned beyond recognition.
After the fire was extinguished the patient was declared as deceased.
A neighbour who attempted to help sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene, he did not require hospital transportation.
We send our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
The scene was handed over to SAPS for investigation.
