Five suspects, aged between 33 and 39, were arrested in Kuruman on Tuesday, 17 June 2026, after they were allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen cattle valued at approximately R60 000.
Police acted on intelligence-driven information and traced the suspects to a feeding lot at approximately 18:15.
During questioning by police regarding the five cattle, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their possession of the animals.
This prompted an intensive investigation, which led to the lawful owner being summoned to the scene.
Upon arrival at the feeding lot, the 60-year-old owner positively identified all five cattle as his property.
The suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property.
Police also confiscated a single-cab bakkie that was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court this week.
The Acting District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi, commended the members for their swift response to the information received, which prevented a significant loss to the cattle owner.
