A customer’s vehicle was crashed by an intoxicated Mechanic in the Verulam CBD – KZN this afternoon (Friday, 17/07/2026).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the parking lot/taxi rank of a business premises after receiving multiple calls reporting the incident. On arrival, Reaction Officers found a large crowd surrounding the driver of a black VW Golf and shouting insults at him.
It was established that the Mechanic had collected the customer’s vehicle for repairs. While attempting to kick-start the vehicle, he lost control and collided with the rear of a VW Caddy.
Reaction Officers observed that the Mechanic appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He was speaking with slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet.
Officers are awaiting the arrival of Verulam SAPS in KZN (17:16) to hand over the driver
