A suspect sought for a spate of robberies in the Verulam Central Business District was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) this afternoon (Tuesday).
A male arrived at RUSA HQ at approximately 17:56 requesting assistance to apprehend one (1) of two (2) men who robbed him of his cellphone and wallet on Ireland Street earlier today. He informed Reaction Officers that he noticed the suspect walking on George Sewpersad Street and decided to seek assistance from the Operations Centre. The male also informed Officers that the suspect was in possession of a large dagger at the time of the robbery.
Reaction Officers set out in search and spotted a man matching the description walking along George Sewpersad Street. First Responders immediately approached and subdued him. A large dagger was found in his possession. The victim confirmed that it was the same weapon used during his incident.
He was restrained and detained at SAPS Verulam.
