Members attached to Operation Shanele 2 are making a significant impact in the province. This was evident when the team conducted disruptive operations in Mitchells Plain and Delft policing areas simultaneously.
The members arrested a 34-year-old male for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Botrivier Street, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and eight rounds. On 20 September 2025 the members were deployed in Mitchells Plain area busy with stop and search operations when they saw a suspicious looking male, they stopped and searched him and found him in in possession of the firearm and ammunition.
At 18:40 in Cricket Street, Beaconvalley, Mitchells Plain a 43-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and 11 rounds. This arrest was made while the members were busy with stop and search operations in Beaconvalley.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates court, respectively, on Monday, 22 September 2025, for their mentioned charges.
In the Delft area, the members arrested an adult male for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. The members of Operation Shanela 2 chased a vehicle with suspicious looking occupants. The vehicle a VW Polo was pulled over at Longmead Street, Roosendal. The members searched the vehicle and occupants and found the front passenger with a revolver with serial number removed and six rounds.
He was arrested and detained at Delft SAPS and will appear in the Bellville Magistrates court on Monday, 22 September 2025.
Meanwhile, Saturday night, 20 September 2025 at about 23:30, members attached to Makhaza SAPS received information about drugs that are being sold at a residence in Nkanini informal settlement in Makhaza. They immediately operationalised the information and found the person as described and searched the premises and person. A large quantity of drugs was found hidden in the sand before the front door of the house. The owner of the residence, a 53-year-old female, was arrested for dealing in drugs. The drugs were handed in as exhibits.
The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate court on Monday, 22 September 2025.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile applauded the members involved in these operations. He thanked them for all the time they dedicate in making sure that the province is protected and safe.
