A 21-year-old male suspect from Browns Farm, who had been sought by police for several days, was arrested at his home this morning. The suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation by members of various units operating under Lockdown III.
On Wednesday, 11 March 2026, members received reports that the suspect was demanding a protection fee from a hair salon in Philippi. Upon arrival at the salon, they were informed that the victim had already paid the amount and that the suspect was no longer in the area. The intelligence team continued their investigation and uncovered the suspect’s address on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
On Friday, 13 March 2026, members descended on the suspect’s home in Nobanda Street, Woody Bay, Browns Farm, Philippi, and found the 21-year-old. He directed the members to where he had hidden his firearm, a silver modified Retay 84 FS with seven rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and is expected to appear at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 March 2026.
In a separate incident, members of Public Order Police operating under #OperationLockdown3 recovered a 9mm pistol in Broadlands Road, Lwandle. While conducting stop-and-search operations, an unknown male spotted the officers and fled on foot. During the pursuit, he dropped the firearm, which was subsequently booked in as evidence while investigations continue.
