A Zimbabwean national allegedly discharged a firearm while pursuing a South African male tenant over unpaid rent in Waterloo – KZN this afternoon (Sunday).
Members of the tenant’s family contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after witnessing the landlord chasing the man on the property. Moments later, they heard a gunshot and immediately requested assistance.
Reaction Officers responded and located the tenant unharmed. He informed Officers that he had recently lost his job at a call centre and had fallen behind on his rent payments amounting to R3 500.
According to the man, the landlord confronted him earlier today regarding the outstanding rent, chased him and allegedly fired a shot in his direction.
The spent cartridge casing was reportedly collected from the scene before the landlord fled prior to the arrival of Reaction Officers.
The tenant explained that he is due to start a new job tomorrow (Monday) and intends settling the outstanding rental amount upon receiving his first salary.
