he South African Police Services (SAPS) and Metro Police Search & Rescue Units have successfully recovered the body of fifty four (54) year old Tony Govender this morning (Tuesday).
The recovery operation commenced on Friday (29/05/2026) and lasted five (5) days. His family remained on the banks of the Hazelmere Dam in KZN. during the recovery operation.
Govender drowned while swimming out to recover a drifting jet ski. He was at the dam celebrating his 54th birthday with friends.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) initially deployed a Helicopter in a rescue attempt before it could be established that Govender had drowned. On request of the family, the Helicopter was again despatched to conduct a low search on Saturday afternoon (30/05/2026).
Govender a father of two (2) is an Umhlanga – KZN resident and a businessman
