Two males, aged 37 and 39 respectively, were arrested near Askham in the ZF Mgcawu District in the Northern Cape after they were allegedly found in possession of dagga and mandrax tablets with an estimated combined value of R134 250.00.
Members of Witdraai SAPS were conducting routine patrols along the R360 road between Upington and Askham on Wednesday, 03 June 2026, at approximately 21:00, when they spotted a silver vehicle occupied by two men.
The vehicle was stopped and, during the search, police discovered a large plastic bag containing several smaller bags of dagga with an estimated value of R31 750, as well as hundreds of mandrax tablets valued at approximately R102 500.
Both suspects were immediately arrested for dealing in drugs, and the vehicle was subsequently seized as it was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Rietfontein Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in drugs.
The District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu District, Major General Monica Sebili, commended the members for their vigilance and dedication. She also issued a stern warning to drug dealers operating within the district, stating that law enforcement agencies will continue to intensify efforts to combat drug-related crime and that offenders will be arrested and brought to book.
