Members of the Public Order Police Unit, Bloemfontein Platoon 8, arrested two suspects, aged 26 and 27, in possession of dagga and dagga by-products with an estimated street value of R77 400.00 at Trapping at the Banda, Willows, Bloemfontein.
Operators were busy with the execution of Operation Shanela II actions. During a stop-and-search activity, a group of young males were searched, and rolled zols and zip-lock plastics containing dagga were found in their possession. They then provided information about the address where dagga was being sold. The team reacted to the information and had to tactically breach the locked door. The first suspect was arrested while attempting to escape through the toilet window, and the second one was apprehended just before opening a dog kennel where pit bulls were kept.
The police then started searching the premises, and the following items were found and seized:
● 472 small, colourful zip bags of dagga, each priced at R20;
● 240 other zip bags priced at R10 each;
● 361 transparent zip-lock plastics, each priced at R20;
● 2 400 ready-made zols priced at R10 each;
● 80 colourful zols priced at R30 each;
● 15 medium zip bags, priced at R50 each; and
● 34 other small packages priced at R35 each, as well as dagga oil.
The dagga and by-products were counted and processed into evidence bags in the presence of the two suspects. Cash presumed to be the proceeds of the sale of drugs was also counted and confiscated. The suspects failed to produce any type of permit for the possession, cultivation or sale of dagga and dagga by-products.
A case docket of dealing in dagga was opened at Parkweg Police Station. The two suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.
