A foreign national sustained serious injuries following a high impact single vehicle collision on Phoenix Highway near the Gandhi Park area on Monday evening.
According to multiple eyewitnesses, the vehicle was allegedly travelling at an excessive speed from the J.G. Champion area towards the Phoenix Industrial Park when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle left the roadway before crashing violently into a light pole, leaving the driver severely entrapped inside the wreckage.
KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, medics found the driver trapped inside the extensively damaged vehicle and immediately commenced advanced life support treatment while awaiting the Fire Department to conduct the technical extrication.
The Fire Department responded swiftly and successfully extricated the critically injured driver, who was further stabilised by emergency personnel from EMRS AND KZNVIP before being transported under urgent medical care to a nearby medical facility for further assessment and treatment. Traffic was disrupted for a period while emergency services worked to rescue the patient and clear the scene.
The exact circumstances leading up to the collision cannot be confirmed at this stage and remain subject to investigation.
