The vigilance of members attached to the Provincial Operational Response Services, the Frances Baard District Task Team and the Kimberley Flying Squad resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the confiscation of Khat.
On Friday evening, 10 July 2026, at approximately 22:00, the team was conducting high-visibility patrols in the Kimberley CBD when they noticed a Toyota Yaris. The members stopped the vehicle, engaged with the driver and, with his consent, conducted a search.
During the search, the members discovered suspected Khat with an estimated street value of R3 990.00, as well as a substantial amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.
The 28-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged accordingly. He was later transported to a hospital for medical treatment after he reportedly ingested some of the suspected drugs.
Operations conducted under the auspices of Operation Shanela II will continue unabated as the South African Police Service remains committed to addressing serious and violent crime throughout the province. #DrugsOffTheStreets
