The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety commends the bravery and vigilance of community members in Mokopane who assisted law enforcement officers in apprehending a reckless driver yesterday.
At approximately peak hours, Limpopo Provincial Traffic Officers were conducting point duty services at Moshate cross in Mokopane, managing traffic flow on the N11. A 40-year-old male driver of a white Polo GTI with Gauteng registration deliberately disobeyed instructions from an officer and attempted to hit him.
The officer escaped harm and pursued the driver, who was eventually stopped with the help of community members near Voortrekker Hospital on Rabe Street. The driver is facing charges of drinking and driving, reckless and negligent driving, failure to stop on instructions, and resisting arrest.
“We appreciate the community’s swift action and collaboration with law enforcement,” says the Department. “Your involvement ensured the officer’s safety and brought a potentially dangerous driver to justice.”
The incident highlights the importance of community-law enforcement partnerships in maintaining road safety.
