Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, joined by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Policing, Major General Fred Kekana, and Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General Samuel Thine, are leading the multidisciplinary #OperationShanela2 in the Mamelodi/Mamelodi East areas, where a roadblock is mounted and stop-and-search operations, vehicle checkpoints, and the raiding of liquor outlets are being conducted.
The operation started with overnight suspect tracing, which resulted in the arrest of 724 wanted suspects for serious and violent crimes, including 169 suspects for crimes committed against women and children.
At the roadblock, so far more than 50 people have been arrested for various crimes such as driving while under the influence of alcohol, dealing in and possession of drugs, illegal immigration, and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
