A joint multidisciplinary operation executed by the Provincial Tracking Team and Investigation, together with private security, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Shadowsecure Security, managed to arrest two male suspects for possession of 15 master boxes of illicit cigarettes worth about R140 000.00.
The police acted on intelligence information about two vehicles, a silver Chevrolet Captiva and a white Suzuki MPV, transporting illicit cigarettes from Zimbabwe to Mopani. The members spotted the vehicles between Tzaneen and Letsitele, and the suspects noticed the police presence and immediately sped off. A vehicle chase ensued between police and the suspects. The suspects’ vehicles were ultimately stopped in Letsitele.
Upon searching the vehicles, police discovered boxes of illicit cigarettes, Remington Gold. Two suspects, aged 27 and 42 respectively, were immediately arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and for being illegal immigrants.
The pair will appear before the Letsitele Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026, for possession of illicit cigarettes and for contravention of the Immigration Act.
Police investigations continue.
