A female homeowner confronted and subdued a copper thief caught on her property in Amaoti – KZN during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the scene at approximately 02:42. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the suspect with his hands bound and visible facial injuries.
The injuries were sustained during an altercation with the homeowner and neighbours. According to the homeowner, she was awakened by suspicious noises emanating from her yard. Investigating the disturbance, she found a man in the act of stealing copper pipes and fittings from her property.
Armed with a baton, the female confronted the suspect and began to physically restrain him. Her calls for help attracted neighbours who quickly joined in to subdue the individual.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to being a heroin addict and confirmed that his intention was to sell the stolen copper to a scrapyard to finance his drug habit.
