The fight against the proliferation of unlicensed firearms continues in OR Tambo District as Ngqeleni Crime Prevention members arrested a 42-year-old male suspect of Khombe locality in Ngqeleni on Saturday, 24 January 2026 at about 13:00 for possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Ngqeleni Crime Prevention members operationalized information received and recovered a Revolver Flywheel with nine live rounds and a 7.65 – 9mm pistol with three live rounds. Both firearms had their serial numbers erased. A rifle round and other ammunition were also recovered from the suspect.
In an unrelated incident in Qumbu, two male suspects aged 35 and 37 were arrested on Thursday, 22 January 2026 by the OR Tambo Stocktheft Prevention Task Team and Qumbu detectives for possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol each with ammunition, both firearms had their serial numbers erased. The 37-year-old suspect was wanted for alleged involvement in the mass killing of six people that were gunned down in Thina Falls in October 2024. The trio will appear in Qumbu and Ngqeleni Magistrate courts respectively, to face their charges.
OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana appreciated the high levels of commitment and dedication displayed by members involved for the safety of all in the District and urged detectives to leave no stone unturned in exposing the truth about Tina Falls mass killings for justice to take its course.
