Six (6) family members were held hostage during a house robbery in Hazelmere – KZN during the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday, 18/05/2026).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received reports of the robbery at approximately 02:33. On arrival, Reaction Officers interviewed members of the family who explained that they were conducting a prayer at approximately 00:30 when four (4) suspects entered the property through an unlocked door. Three (3) of the intruders were armed with handguns.
The robbers held five (5) females and one (1) male at gunpoint before restraining them with shoelaces and a gown rope (picture 2). The perpetrators demanded cash and cellular phones while searching the home.
One (1) of the victims was allegedly forced to unlock her cellphone before an amount of R35 000 was transferred from her bank account. The family was kept under guard for approximately two (2) hours before the suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction.
The following items were stolen:
* one (1) pink Apple iPhone 15
* one (1) black Samsung Galaxy A06
* one (1) black Honor X5
* R35 000 transferred electronically
No injuries were reported.
