A housebreaking suspect was disturbed during a housebreaking in progress in the Ottawa area of Verulam on Thursday morning.
KZN VIP’s Security Response Team was dispatched after receiving an alert from a neighbouring property reporting suspicious activity at a residence.
Upon arrival, it is believed that a suspect had gained entry to the property and was in the process of stealing valuables. After being disturbed by vigilant neighbours, the suspect fled the scene on foot, dropping multiple stolen items in an attempt to evade capture.
The suspect subsequently escaped through a dense bushy area leading towards a neighbouring community. KZN VIP response officers immediately conducted extensive patrols and searches in the surrounding area; however, the suspect was not located.
Fortunately, some valuables were left behind and remained at the scene.
KZN VIP commends the alert neighbours whose swift actions and timely reporting helped prevent a potentially significant loss to the homeowner.
