A multidisciplinary anti-smuggling operation conducted by law enforcement agencies in Limpopo, resulted in the recovery of a stolen luxury vehicle and the arrest of a 31-year-old foreign national on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
The operation was carried out by members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit, supported by Limpopo Tactical Response Team, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Tracker Connect.
Police received information during the early hours of Thursday, 18 June 2026, regarding a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Gauteng and was allegedly being transported to the Beitbridge Port of Entry for possible smuggling out of the country.
Operational teams immediately activated and maintained observation at the intersection of the R101 South and R519 roads within the Westernburg policing area. The suspected vehicle was later spotted, and the driver failed to stop after being signalled to do so by law enforcement officials.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, culminating in the vehicle being successfully intercepted and brought to a stop near the Shell Ultra City in Polokwane.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, a Nissan Patrol V8 valued at approximately R900 000, had been reported stolen in Fairland, Randburg, Gauteng, on Saturday, 13 June 2026.
The driver, a 31-year-old Zimbabwean national, was arrested at the scene. Further investigations established that he had no legal documentation to be in the Republic of South Africa.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 June 2026, facing charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, contravention of the Immigration Act, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
Police investigations are continuing.
