A 34-year-old male who was evading Police for a month was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) on Cottonwood Drive in Trenance Park – KZN this afternoon (Wednesday).
RUSA was contacted by a resident of Chubbies Garage – KZN last week requesting assistance to apprehend the suspect who stole his 9mm Norinco firearm during a party. The complainant informed Reaction Officers that on Sunday (03/04/2022), they were at a party at a relative’s house on Cottonwood Drive when he asked his wife to store his firearm in a bedroom due to them consuming alcohol.
The suspect, who resides in the area arrived at the event with a mutual friend. During the function, he allegedly entered the bedroom and stole the firearm which was stored in a cupboard. The theft was witnessed by another partygoer. He informed the owner however the suspect has fled with the weapon. The victim registered a criminal case at the Verulam SAPS. Attempts to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful as he continuously evaded Law Enforcement.
This afternoon, Reaction Officers received information that he was a passenger in a white Ford Ranger that was parked on Cottonwood Drive in Trenance Park – KZN. Officers proceeded to the area and approached the vehicle. The suspect was identified and placed under arrest. During questioning, he denied having knowledge of the firearm but later stated that it was stolen by his friend.
He was unable to provide the location of his friend.
The suspect is currently detained at the Verulam SAPS.
