A male suspect in his aged forties is set to appear before Malamulele Magistrate Court on Monday, 30 June 2025 , following his arrest for kidnapping and extortion of a 27-year-old who was busy doing his contraction work at Malamulele section C.
On Saturday 28 June 2025 at approximately 10:30, a contraction company from Gauteng Province deployed an employee at Limpopo Province in Malamulele outside Vhembe District for inspection and maintenance of the street lights around Malamulele section C. While busy with his work, two unknown African males calling themselves CPF members, questioned the presence of victim at the location. He explained to them his tasking. These suspects told him that they didn’t have knowledge of his project and instructed him to immediately stop maintaining the street lights.
They took him to a certain house where he was kept, assaulted and tortured with a burning plastic demanding a ransom money for his release. They contacted his boss, who transferred an undisclosed amount of money for his release. He was also robbed of his cellphone, driver’s license, and passport.
The police were informed about the incident and launched a search for the possible suspects. Eventually, one suspect was arrested immediately after collecting all evidence from the victim. Police have intensified a search for the remaining suspect(s).
