Members of Worcester SAPS were conducting stop and search operations in Bless Hoender Street, Avian Park, in the early hours of Saturday morning to combat gang violence in the area.
The members noticed a male carrying a bag and when they approached him, he started to run. He was apprehended and the bag was searched and they found a revolver with seven rounds of ammunition in the bag. The 43-year-old male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ court on Monday, 10 November 2025.
In an unrelated matter, members of Cloetesville SAPS, received information about a firearm at a premises in Botmaskop, Idas Valley. Members operationalised the information and proceeded to the identified premises where upon arrival, the person in the house denied them entry. When members gained entry to the house the person jumped over the fence. A 9mm firearm without a serial number, a shotgun barrel and various assorted rounds of ammunition were found in the house. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
