The Gauteng Traffic Police together with the Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT in the Eastern corridor apprehended two suspects while conducting routine patrol duties in Tembisa.
This follows officers identifying a suspicious white VW Golf travelling without number plates.
Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and sped off, leading to a pursuit. The vehicle was successfully intercepted in Tembisa with the assistance of the SAPS, Ivory Park.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that both occupants had been consuming alcohol inside the vehicle. During the search, the suspects became aggressive, resisting arrest, intimidating officers, and interfering with police duties.
Officers managed to arrest both individuals and the driver has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, intimidation, and resisting arrest. The passenger faces charges of intimidation, interfering with police duties, and obstructing the ends of justice.
Further investigation revealed that all identification markers on the vehicle had been tampered with. The vehicle has since been booked in for a SAPS inquiry.
The suspects were detained at Ivory Park Police Station, and the matter remains under investigation.
These arrests reaffirm the commitment to ensure the safety of all road users in the province.
