Garden Route Crime Combatting Team members deployed in Thembalethu, George as part of ongoing crime combatting operations yielded excellent results with the seizure of various calibre of ammunition.
On Thursday, 14 May 2026 at about 16:00, the team conducted patrols in Zone 07, Thembalethu, when they received information of ammunition stored at a premises at 29 Street, Thembalethu.
They operationalised the information and searched the identified address, where they found R5 rifle rounds and three rifle rounds in the bedroom hidden under a mattress. The members also found 20 (twenty) 9mm hollow points concealed in a sling bag.
A 32-year-old male found inside the residence was unable to provide an explanation for his possession thereof. He was subsequently arrested for unlawful possession of ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, on the same day (Thursday, 14 May 2026), Knysna police members arrested three suspects for possession of suspected stolen property after copper cables were found in their possession in two separate incidents. The members cornered two men, aged 36 and 46, at Akker Lane, Brackenhill in Knysna, and the search of the pair led to the discovery of copper. A third suspect, aged 25, was arrested after he was found at a scrap yard at Agter Street, Hornlee in Knysna with copper in his possession.
The origin of the copper forms part of an ongoing police investigation. More charges could be added as the investigation unfolds.
The four suspects remain in police custody. Once charged, the suspects will appear respectively in the George and Knysna Magistrates’ Courts for their respective charges.
