Vital intelligence led members attached to #OperationLockdown3 to the discovery of a safe containing an AK-47 rifle, Citadel 12-gauge shotgun and an undisclosed amount of cash at a premises in Hughes Street, Belhar on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
The members received information about a suspect affiliated to a local gang grouping and linked to a gunsmith, who was believed to be in possession of firearms.
They operationalised the information, and on arrival at the mentioned address, a search ensued, which resulted in the discovery of the aforesaid firearms and money. A further search led to the recovery of three firearm scopes and rounds of ammunition.
After a lengthy pursuit, a 67-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
He is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
