PVES members received an urgent request to assist with a medical emergency. While responding, IER Integrated Emergency Response was requested to activate a Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) ambulance.
On arrival, members found an 83-year-old female patient who had collapsed. An initial assessment revealed an extremely high pulse rate while the patient was being monitored. Shortly thereafter, the patient became unresponsive and CPR was immediately initiated.
Additional resources were requested which had responded rapidly to the scene. Advanced resuscitation efforts continued, including the administration of emergency medication. Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) was achieved following defibrillation.
Preparations were made to transport the patient; however, she suffered a further cardiac arrest. CPR was immediately resumed, and all available interventions continued for more than an hour.
Despite the combined efforts of all emergency personnel on scene, the patient could not be revived and was sadly declared deceased at the scene.
Our sincere condolences go out to the patient’s family and friends during this difficult time.
