A suspect has been apprehended after allegedly attempting to defeat the ends of justice by fabricating an armed robbery incident in the Trenance Manor area of Phoenix on Friday afternoon.
KZN VIP Reaction Units were dispatched following reports from an Indian male who alleged that he had been robbed by four armed African male suspects after they had reportedly emptied safes at a business premises.
Following a thorough investigation conducted by KZN VIP’s investigative team, several inconsistencies were identified in the complainant’s account. Further enquiries and the analysis of video footage subsequently revealed that the complainant himself was allegedly involved in the crime and had fabricated the armed robbery.
The suspect was detained by KZN VIP members, and all of the allegedly stolen items were successfully recovered. The suspect was thereafter handed over to SAPS for further investigation and processing.
