Members attached to the Anti-Gang Unit were deployed in Belhar policing precinct and were busy with a tracing of wanted suspects operation. They received information that a firearm is being held at a premises in Lewis Street Belhar. Upon arrival, a proper search was conducted and they found a .38 Special revolver and five rounds on the roof. A 34-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
Later at another premises, the members were looking for a murder suspect. When they entered the premises, the suspect fled onto a roof, and was apprehended by the members. The suspect was arrested for two separate murder cases perpetrated in June and July 2026 in Belhar. Both suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates court once charged.
On Wednesday, 08 July 2026 at 19:50 members of the National Intervention Unit responded to information that firearms will be sold at Pelican Heights, Muizenberg. An operation was put into place and the two vehicles were pulled over at Seagull Street, Pelican Heights, and searched. In a Hyundai vehicle, members found an AK 47 without a serial number and a camouflage box with a large amount of ammunition. Three suspects including a 27-year-old female and two males aged 38 and 42 were arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. The exhibits were handed in for further processing. This case will be investigated by the Provincial Detectives Organised Crime. The suspects are due to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates court once charged.
Early this morning, Thursday, 09 July 2026 at 00:10, members attached to Operation Lockdown III, were performing vehicle patrols in Leonsdale area, when they saw a suspicious looking male at a premises in 12th Avenue, Leonsdale. Upon approaching the suspect, he dropped an unknown object while running. The members found an imitation firearm with seven green tip blank rounds.
The firearm and ammunition were seized and handed in as exhibits. An abandoned firearm and ammunition enquiry was registered for investigation. #GunsOffTheStreets
