A man suspected of involvement in a series of burglaries in Mhlasini – KZN was severely assaulted by a mob earlier today (Friday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), Verulam SAPS, and several private security companies engaged in a Disruptive Operation routed to a call of a mob attack.
First responders arrived to find a large crowd of men, women, and children gathered around the accused. Community members alleged that the individual was responsible for numerous burglaries in the area.
It was established that the mob proceeded to the suspect’s residence after receiving information about his alleged activities. They recovered a box containing identity documents and broken cellphones, believed to belong to burglary victims.
The crowd then dragged the man to a nearby soccer ground, where the assault took place. At the time of the incident, no formal complainant had come forward to register a case or verify ownership of the recovered items.
The Verulam SAPS in KZN has detained the suspect for further investigation.
